Rubio’s Launches Seafood Twice A Week Initiative
Eating More Seafood Can Boost Health and Lower Heart Attach and Stroke Risk
SAN DIEGO – Seafood? More like Superfood. When the American Heart Association (AHA) published its report that two servings of fish per week could significantly reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, Ralph Rubio, co-founder of Rubio’s Coastal Grill, knew his restaurants could help change guests’ lives for the better.
While the San Diego-based brand is best known for popularizing the Baja-inspired, Original Fish Taco®, Rubio’s Coastal Grill has 35 years of seafood mastery, offering healthy grilled seafood dishes without compromising flavor. Using responsibly sourced seafood, the menu features bold, unique flavors in dishes ranging from the Cilantro Lime Quinoa Bowl with Grilled Mahi Mahi to the Ancho Citrus Grilled Shrimp Burrito and Grilled Wild Alaska Salmon Tacos. Healthy options, including nutrient-rich brown rice and quinoa, fresh greens with lemon agave vinaigrette, and heart-healthy avocados are always available.
To boost awareness and wellness, Rubio’s is issuing a challenge to encourage eating seafood twice a week. The company will reward guests with special offers, inviting them to come back to enjoy seafood a second time within the same week.
“Not everyone likes to prepare fish at home, and we offer a variety of great-tasting, made-to-order grilled seafood options,” said Ralph Rubio, co-founder of Rubio’s. “Our seafood is a natural source of lean protein with omega-3s and essential nutrients. We listen closely to our guests’ feedback and make it a priority to offer healthy menu options, high in both protein and fresh ingredients.”
Research has shown that the anti-inflammatory influence of omega-3s may reduce the risk of congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, ischemic stroke and sudden cardiac death, especially when seafood replaces the intake of less healthy foods.
“Many of Rubio’s guests first learned to love seafood after trying it in our restaurants. Raising awareness about the health benefits of eating seafood twice a week can help people of all ages live healthier lives,” continued Rubio.
Eating more seafood also has benefits for pregnant women, including brain, heart and eye health for both mothers and their babies. Seafood is among the highest quality proteins and reported to contribute to overall feelings of well-being, improve skin appearance and is a good source of vitamin D.
