Rubio’s Partners with Baja Artist Marco Tulio Celebrating Our Commitment to World Oceans Day

For a brand that has counted the ocean as a source of inspiration since serving its first fish taco 40 years ago, Rubio’s commitment to World Oceans Day is a big deal. Each June at Rubio’s, World Oceans Day is not just about the tradition of giving out reusable bags, but a company-wide effort to raise awareness around the importance of protecting our oceans and waterways. This has been part of our company culture from day one.

This year, in celebration of our Baja roots, we partnered with Mexican Artist Marco Tulio to further highlight the authentic connection between Rubio’s and World Oceans Day. On Thursday, June 8, we will be giving our guests a free, reusable canvas tote bag with any purchase, featuring a painted design created exclusively for Rubio’s by Marco Tulio. Marco’s art is world-renowned, and he  shares our love of the ocean and commitment to protecting it for future generations.

Marco Tulio has been an artist for over twenty years, and has presented his work throughout Mexico as well as San Diego, Dallas, New York, Las Vegas, Amsterdam, Rome, Paris, Barcelona, Shanghai and Muscat. He has always been interested in understanding how nature works, its biology, its spirituality and how ancient civilizations understood and deciphered it to coexist in harmony.

With an enthusiasm for art from an early age, Marco was first inspired during desert hiking and excavation activities with his famiy in his native Coahuila. Here, he would find marine fossils and discover treasures in the organic geometries of the snails, shells, ammonites and petrified fish. His early fascination with the structures of life, its organisms and botany began his lifelong journey to create nature-inspired art.

Today, Marco Tulio travels the world mainly focusing on the oceans collecting and photographing life forms  for inspiration. He starts his art pieces by diluting acrylic with water and oil, and from an almost spiritual vision, creates paintings that he calls “natural codes.” The blown ink in his work visually reaffirms the prominence that water has, not only as a creative medium, but also as the vital force that moves everything and that creates and discovers the hidden. Marco wants us to experience, recognize and interpret nature’s messages, with the hope that we can understand ourselves and what surrounds us, to coexist.

Rubio’s is proud to partner with Marco Tulio to continue raising awareness for ocean conservation for generations to come. We will be giving away the original bag design art piece on Instagram, so be sure to  follow us for a chance to win.
